A ship owned by Danish shipping giant Maersk, which began drifting in the Strait of Gibraltar on January 29,2020, suffered major engine failure on its container ship, the World Maritime News Network reported.
The 3078 TEU's container ship, the Maersk Batur, had just left the Spanish Algeciras for the United States when the incident occurred.

"The navigation department is sailing the ship and towing it to the port of Algeciras to begin to inspect and resolve the problem, " Maersk said in an advisory report on January 30.
According to AIS data from the "Maersk Batur", the Singapore-flagged container ship had docked in the port of Algeciras as of January 31. The ship is expected to be delayed and Maersk is handling the matter.

Data from Vessel Valuation Agency Vessel showed that the Maersk Batur was built in South Korea in 2009, measuring 225 meters in length and 32.2 meters in width.
