    ANL (Australian National Line) is a shipping company owned by the Australian government (1956-1998). The container shipping business and naming rights were later acquired by French shipping company CMA CGM.

    ANL provides a wide range of shipping services for Asia, Europe, North America, the Mediterranean, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East Persian Gulf, with its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia, with regional offices and agents around the world, ANL is part of CMA CGM Group, the world's third-largest container shipping line. By its founder, Jacques R. SAADE leads and operates more than 400 ships on more than 170 routes, covers 400 ports in 150 countries, has 17,200 employees, 650 agencies and offices around the world. In 2011 CMA CGM shipped more than 10 million standard cases and had an annual turnover of $14.9 billion. ANL dates back to 1956 when it was established by the Australian government to operate a shipping service around the Australian coast. Add other routes over time and ANL into international trade and from Australia. For decades ANL has been the backbone of Australian maritime operations using goods from all over the coast or around the world. CMA CGM, aware of the value of the ANL brand across the region, began buying ANL from the Australian government in 1998.
