The MSC Samar, the second 23,000 TEU class Super Knock Nevis built by Samsung Heavy Industries for Mediterranean shipping, was named in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The ship is named after Ms. Samar Kanaan, wife of Ammar Kanaan, CEO of Terminal Investment Limited Company (Til). The Kanaan family had the honor and excitement to participate in the naming celebration, and by the age-old shipping tradition, Ms. Samar Kanaan broke a bottle of champagne at the bow of the ship to pray and wish the ship and crew safe sailing.
At the ceremony in Bremerhaven that day, about 200 people including VIP guests of Mediterranean Shipping, representatives of Bremerhaven port authorities, Mediterranean shipping staff and partners were gathered to celebrate the naming ceremony of the Knock Nevis, the latest addition to the Mediterranean shipping network.

The MSC Samar is the second in a series of six 23,000 TEU-class Knock Nevis built by Samsung Heavy Industries Juji shipyard for Mediterranean shipping. Like the first MSC Gulsun, delivered in July this year, the MSC Samar is 400 meters long, 61.5 meters wide and 33.2 metres high, capable of carrying 23,75620-foot containers, making it one of the largest Knock Nevis ships in the world to date At the same time with the most advanced container shipbuilding engineering and energy-saving innovation as its characteristics, environmental protection will be the priority.
Not only is the capacity of these new vessels huge, says Knock Nevis, but the new vessels also draw attention to the reliability and predictability of container shipping. Also, Knock Nevis offers customers the most environmentally friendly and efficient options for Asian to Nordic shipping networks due to their large size, environmental performance, and safety.
